Transfer Partner
A transfer partner is an airline or hotel loyalty program that accepts points moved over from a bank rewards program. You shift your flexible bank points into the partner's account, and they become that program's own currency. This is how one stash of bank points can reach many different airlines and hotels.
What it means in practice
Each bank program keeps its own list of partners, and the list matters as much as the points themselves. A program is only useful to you if it partners with somewhere you actually want to go. Transfers are usually one way, and they often complete instantly, though some take hours or days.
The key thing to watch is the transfer ratio. Most partners run 1 to 1, but some give you fewer partner points than the bank points you send, which quietly cuts the value of the move.
Example
You hold 80,000 flexible bank points and move them to an airline partner at a 1 to 1 ratio, giving you 80,000 airline miles to book an award seat.
