Award Availability
Award availability is whether a program is actually releasing seats or rooms for points on the dates you want. Having enough points is only half the equation. If no award space is open, the redemption cannot be booked no matter how large your balance is.
What it means in practice
Airlines and hotels control how much inventory they open to award bookings, and that amount shifts with demand. Popular routes, peak seasons, and premium cabins tend to have the tightest space. Flexibility on dates, times, and even nearby airports is usually what turns a wished-for redemption into a confirmed one.
Example
A traveler wants two business class award seats on a specific date but finds only one open. Shifting the trip by two days, or splitting across a partner airline, may surface the second seat that the original date did not have.
