Transferable Rewards
Transferable rewards are bank points you can move into multiple airline and hotel programs, rather than points locked to a single brand. Because they are flexible, they let you decide where the points go after you earn them. This flexibility is what makes them the most valuable type of everyday rewards currency.
What it means in practice
The appeal is optionality. You earn one currency, then route it to whichever partner gives you the best deal for a specific trip, or you cash it out at a flat rate if you prefer simplicity. You are not betting on one airline staying generous.
The tradeoff is that the value only shows up when you redeem well. Sitting on a large balance of transferable points exposes you to devaluations at any partner, so the points are worth more once they are actually used.
Example
You earn 100,000 transferable points and choose between moving them to an airline for a flight, sending them to a hotel chain for several nights, or cashing them out at one cent each for 1,000 dollars.
