Elite Night Credit
An elite night credit is a unit hotel programs count toward earning or keeping elite status. You typically earn one credit per paid or award night, plus bonus credits from co-branded cards or status matches. Reaching a tier means hitting a target number of nights.
What it means in practice
Hotel status is usually measured in nights rather than dollars. Each qualifying night adds a credit, and many co-branded cards hand out a block of elite night credits each year just for holding the card, which shortens the path to a tier.
Because the count resets each year, travelers track their nights closely near year-end. A card's credits, a few mattress-run nights, or a well-timed stay can be the difference between requalifying for a tier and dropping down.
Example
A program needs 50 nights for a top tier. Your card grants 15 elite night credits a year, so you only need to actually stay 35 nights to requalify.
