Award Night
An award night is a single night of a hotel stay paid for with points instead of cash. Each night is priced separately in points, and a multi-night stay is simply several award nights added together. It is the hotel equivalent of an award flight.
What it means in practice
Hotel programs let you book a stay night by night using points, and the points cost per night can change based on the property's category, the date, and demand. That means two nights in the same room can cost different amounts if pricing is dynamic.
Because each night stands on its own, you can also mix and match. Travelers sometimes pay points for the pricey nights and cash for the cheaper ones, or stack a free night certificate on top to cover one night of a longer stay.
Example
A hotel charges 30,000 points per night, so a three-night award stay costs 90,000 points, before any fifth-night-free or certificate perks apply.
