Cents Per Point (CPP)
Cents per point, or CPP, is the dollar value you get from a single point or mile when you redeem it. You calculate it by dividing the cash value of what you booked by the number of points you spent, then multiplying by 100. It is the standard yardstick for judging whether a redemption is good or bad.
What it means in practice
CPP turns a vague feeling about a redemption into a number you can compare. Two flights that both cost 60,000 miles are not equal if one would have cost 600 dollars in cash and the other 1,800 dollars. The second one earns you three times the value per mile.
Example
You book a flight that would cost 900 dollars in cash for 60,000 miles. Divide 900 by 60,000, multiply by 100, and you get 1.5 cents per point.
