Cents Per Point Calculator

Every redemption has a value. This tells you what yours is, in plain cents, and whether it actually beats taking cash.

Enter all three numbers to see your cents per point.

How to use it

  1. Find the cash price the same flight or night would cost if you paid money.
  2. Enter the taxes and fees you still pay on the award (close-in fees, fuel surcharges, resort fees).
  3. Enter the points or miles the award costs.
  4. The calculator returns your value per point. Compare it to the program valuation and to what you would get in cash.

How it works

The formula is straightforward: cents per point equals the cash price minus the fees you pay, divided by the points spent, times 100. A higher number means a better redemption. If your CPP comes in low and you do not have a better use for the balance, selling for cash can be the stronger play.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions, answered straight.

It depends on the program, but a rough rule of thumb: under about 1 cent is a weak redemption for most transferable points, 1 to 2 cents is solid, and above 2 cents is excellent. Compare your result to the program valuation, not a universal number.

Take the cash price the award would have cost, subtract any taxes and fees you pay on the award, then divide by the number of points or miles you spend. Multiply by 100 to get cents. CPP = (cash price minus fees) / points x 100.

A low CPP means the redemption is not giving you much value. If you cannot find a better use, selling the balance for cash can beat a poor redemption. Request a quote to compare your cash payout against the CPP you would get.
